World Boardgaming ChampionshipsFriday 29th July 2016 - Saturday 30th July 2016 Sevens Springs Mountain Resort, PENNSYLVANIA, United States Contact: Thomas Haver Tournament Details: Diplomacy is moving with the WBC to Seven Springs, just outside of Pittsburgh. The tournament will feature three rounds over multiple days. Best two rounds of three will count towards the tournament score. Best Country awards and tournament prizes will be provided by the GM. Firm time limits for negotiation and order writing will be followed to ensure expedient play for competitors with other events on their schedule. The style of play is open to all skill-levels and encouraging for new players to earn experience. Fun is #1. Demo - 5pm Friday Round One – 7pm Friday Round Two – 10am Saturday Round Three – 7pm Saturday Scoring: C-Diplo Rank: Best two out of three rounds Hotel: Seven Springs Mountain Resort (located outside Pittsburgh, PA) Yearbook: http://www.boardgamers.org/yearbook/dippge.htm Special note from outgoing Convention Director, Don Greenwood: "As CD of WBC and its predecessor for the last 25 years I have had the privilege of watching many dedicated GMs strive to keep their event robust and relevant in the ebb and flow of the convention's evolution as the following of old classics erode and fall victim to the cult of the new. All bring different levels of competence and devotion to the task before eventually surrendering to the inevitable. Many are motivated by self interest and maintaining the relevancy of their favorite game while maintaining a platform for their own achievements. Others are more altruistic and seek only to preserve the tournament for others. Those who love Diplomacy tend to be in the latter camp as Diplomacy tournament directors rarely play in their own events to ensure their objectivity—aside from an occasional role as an eliminator replacement to fill boards out of necessity. Thus, it is refreshing to have watched the degree of dedication Thomas Haver brings to this event as a non-playing GM. Not only does he sacrifice his time without the gratification of playing the game, but he funds significant prizes and refreshments for his players out of his own pocket. Once upon a time, WBC regularly hosted one of the largest Diplomacy tournaments anywhere and in 2000 hosted a World Dip Con which is still one of the largest such events of all time. Those days are long gone, but Thomas is to be congratulated for his efforts. No one has ever made more of an effort to support such a classic game's relevance." | ||||

GenConThursday 4th August 2016 - Saturday 6th August 2016 Indianapolis, INDIANA, United States Contact: Thomas Haver Tournament Details: "Gen Con Indy is the original, longest running, best attended, gaming convention in the world. For over 40 years, Gen Con Indy has been setting the trend and breaking records. Last year, more than 50,000 unique attendees experienced Gen Con Indy. The biggest complaint we hear is that there is simply too much to do, see, and experience. Get lost in a phantasm of art exhibits. Stare at jaw-dropping costumes, or better yet, wear one of your own. Meet the movers and the shakers in the gaming industry. Check out the newest games and get a sneak peek at the latest editions." Rogue Judges brings you the 31st Annual Diplomacy Tournament at the largest Diplomacy event in the country. Square off in one or more of the four qualifiers. The seven Best Country winners from all qualifiers advance to the Top Board on Saturday night. Rogue Judges also host multiple Diplomacy Introduction events concurrent with the tournament events, with play style encouraging newer players to have a positive experience. Round One –12pm-4pm Thursday Round Two – 8pm-12am Thursday Round Three – 12pm-4pm Friday Round Four - 8pm-12am Friday Top Board - 5pm Saturday GenCon is held at the Indianapolis Convention Center in downtown Indy.
