Well, we had 2 boards going. A total of 14 players, 12 local and 2 of our Southern neigbours from Seattle, Jake and Nathan came up to join in the fun.  . My game ended in 1908 with myself and Nathan facing a solid AI played by Andrew and Eric. The AI was solid through out the game and rolled over Turkey and Russia quickly. Meanwhile the West was in disarray, which was good for me Germany. By the time we got straightened out the AI was solid would not be broken.

Game was voted to a draw in summer '08 (6:30) because Riaz had to leave and my wife had to go out at 7pm. We did not start until about 12-12:30, and used half-drop-dead timing (what I mean is that we used hard resets of time for spring moves and retreats – 15 minute negotiation and orders together, process the results on the clock of the fall negotiations, But adjudicate fall results, retreats, builds and disbands off the clock).  It made for a quicker game but not grossly so.  Plus we had to make accommodations because it was Vlad's first game and Chris's second.

AI started well, and T stabbed R early, but because of the AI was forced to work with R quickly.  Then AI fell apart and T started playing them against each other.  FG started very strong, and stood to make great progress against E, but then G stabbed F over Edi, and F was on the ropes.  G began to lead the board and efforts were made to slow him, but F and E were too out of position to be effective and A refused to settle with I or stab G.  R and E scrapped over the north, and at once point Mos was in English hands, but E was forced to disband and abandoned the Russian holdings to defend the Island.  At the end of the game it was generally conceded that T had the best chance of soloing as I was about to get absorbed and F would work with T no question.  T had just begun a significant stab on R when we ended.  A 3-way draw was settled on.

I was impressed by the speed of our half drop-dead timing.  It didn't make for a 5 hour game, but was a definite improvement in my opinion over the more leisurely pace we have used in the past.  Had we started on time this game may have finished in a real solo around 1910, which is much more interesting than the usual time imposed draw we have had in the past up here.

We got to 1909 I think and it was a 3 way draw between England, France and Turkey. Austria and Russia were eliminated and Germany and Italy were down to a combined 4 centers and a draw was voted on and agreed on by all the surviving powers.

It was a 4 way draw after 8 hours... And for once I did not have the most beer during a game!

((Mike reported the English player only as Riaz. I asked if anyone knew Mr. Riaz first name. Riaz e-mailed that he did  "its Riaz". Game host Andrew Nick tried to be helpful explaining that "No no  it's just 'Riaz' like 'Cher' or 'Fabian'.  I think he's in show business." He put on a good show at the board. The center-year chart show Riaz at 15 when the game finished.)) (( )) = Buz Eddy note
