German End of Game Statement

Micah Krabill Played Germany

German EOG

This was my first email game, so it was an interesting combination of feeling in control because I had plenty of time to check the tactics, and feeling out of control because I was not always energetic enough to write the diplomacy I should have been doing.

I intended to be solid with France and Italy to a three way draw, but the quick collapse of Russia, and the fall of England in such a way that I ended up with one of the dots, made me think, of course, of solo. That was the first time I really considered it, but my "stab" was less than effective. I stabbed both of my allies at once, and neither fell over in the way I'd hoped. I knew it was going to be a tough battle in France/England, but I had hoped that Italy would pull the unit that he had in Russia. Had he done so, he and I could have continued to work together and he would have continued to have enough units in the south to fight in the south.

I had never been terribly convinced that I was going to be able to diplom anything out of Turkey. He seemed tight with Austria the entire way, though he did not seem antagonistic towards me, particularly. Had I felt that I could flip either Austria or Turkey or both, I might have vetoed the draw in order to go after France for the three-way. This would have consisted of Austria and Turkey moving all their extra units into the Med quickly while I held off the French in the North. I believe that it could have worked, but there were certainly no guarantees that they would then have left me alone and I would have been weak in Russia and in the Silesia/Bohemia/Warsaw areas. Because I could not get any assurance from Turkey that he had any interest in going after France, I felt it more prudent to take the draw, despite the poor result.

I think in some ways this would have been a more interesting game for me if I had not been placed in the middle of 3 players I already knew and had played with. Being surrounded by Buz, Marty and Kirk made it all to easy to work with Kirk and Marty. The game would, perhaps, have been more interesting had I been neighbors with people I had not played with, or had I not known the identities of the other players. I am looking forward to the judge game to see what difference that makes.

Thanks for hosting,

Micah
